This review comes from expeirence , it started over 9years ago with the purchase of xiegu x1m 5watt tranceiver ,well it still goes well and it just spells fun, had quite a few contacts with this x1m pro with portable antennas. Well I have a collection of versus hf trancievers that I enjoy. You could say it’s a hobby of mine. Well with lots of research I decided on the xeigu g90 SDR tranceiver to add to the hobby as a licence holder, well what a bit of kit this thing is,it just blew me away , it has a lovely Rx and TX audio, ok it’s twenty watts, well Japan,USA, and ZL stations and VK on 40m so far, it put real fun back into dx with the dipole .it’s amazing, four stars only because of no brackets or flip stands, feachers and performance 5 stars.Keep in mind it brings back memory’s of my younger days due to its size on CB SSB. As a swl radio listening device ,also just the ants pants in AM. Tx on AM not bad to ZL2 from Vk5 on 5w,yes he fell over backwards as well on 40m band.

I am new to the amateur radio hobby and this is my first HF radio. It ticks all the boxes for me as a Foundation licence holder. Every signal report so far has been positive and on every occasion the clear audio clarity has been commented upon even if my signal was low. Also have been using the Xiegu G90 with the CE-19 for FT8 contact on my computer. I am limited to 10 watts but have managed to achieve contacts in Japan, USA, Alaska, Indonesia, NZ and Australia from home with this radio. IMHO the Xiegu G90 is the best entry level HF radio on the market. Also compact enough to put the car or backpack with a battery and do some QRP on the go. I have used this radio in the car with my netbook using JTDX and have made some contacts when parked safely in high altitudes 🙂 Cannot fault the radio. 10/10. A great start to a lifelong hobby courtesy of Tescun for stocking the Xiegu G90.

The G90 is a very good product at a reasonable price. Received audio is very good and I always get good transmit audio reports on SSB. The radio performs very well using digital modes too. The inbuilt antenna tuner is amazing! The unit is compact but ruggedly built; ideal for portable operation. The 20 watts output is very useful. The menu system takes a little getting used to but there’s heaps of online help available….not to mention the excellent back-up from Tecsun Radios Australia.

I wanted to get back into portable operation doing VKFF, POTA, WWFF etc and thought I’d give the Xiegu G90 a go. The Xiegu G90 is a little ripper! Even though I’d checked out on YouTube for months, nothing prepares you for just how small, yet solid and well-built this radio is. 20 watts is the perfect RF power for portable HF. It gives you a little extra oomph over 5 watts and people can actually hear you, while not needing a huge battery for 100 watts. The G90 feels every bit as well made as anything made by the big brands. My only issue was I’m getting front end interference from the local AM radio broadcast transmitter nearby, but I’ve purchased a high-pass filter designed specifically to fix this issue on the G90 (and some other SDR’s) and out portable away from the AM transmitter it wont be an issue. Everyone has commented on how clear my audio is and the audio received even on the small built in speaker is excellent. The insult tuner on this radio puts my Icom 7300 to shame, it’s incredible! I am delighted (and frankly surprised) with the performance of the G90. I did pay the extra $100 or so for the 3 year warranty – thanks to Techsun for the peace of mind, but I’m sure I wont need it. I’m also happy to support a local, family-run small business rather than buy from overseas where I would probably get zero support if I needed any help. Very happy with my purchase and the excellent service provided by the crew at Tecsun 🙂 Craig – VK3CRG, Geelong, Vic

I recently purchased the G90 from Tecsun Aus.
What a great little “Station in a Box”
I’ve only recently renewed my license after 40 years absence and have been active on VHF/UHF. I received my new Advanced License so let’s give HF a try.
The G90 has everything. 20W output on all bands 160m to 10m, all modes, a fantastic ATU that easily tunes my 40m end fed wire on all bands and has an antenna analyser built in too. The receiver is very sensitive with variable filters and the transmit audio is good acc. to other station reports. It has too many features to list here yet is surprisingly easy to operate. Many interstate and overseas contacts just on my wire in a tree. The ATU is wonderful. Just shows what fun you can have with 20W and a wire!
